Felony Trial Division

Administrative Chief Prosecutor David Alex argues on behalf of the State in animal cruelty case.
The Felony Trial Division handles all cases involving offenses for
which the punishment set by law is either incarceration in a state
jail facility or the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (state
penitentiary), or by death in capital murder cases. This division
is responsible for the prosecution of murders, sexual assaults, robberies,
burglaries, aggravated assaults and all other felony offenses not
assigned to a specialized division. There are 93 assistant
district attorneys and 23 investigators who work closely with law
enforcement agencies throughout Dallas County to prosecute cases
in 17 felony district courts. On average, this division handles
over 27,000 felony cases a year.
